"Trauma is something that happens to you that makes you so upset that it overwhelms you. Trauma is not the event that happens but it is how you respond to it."
— Bessel van der Kolk
TRAUMA THERAPY & EMDR
If you are reading this, you have probably experienced some form of trauma, and it has left you unable to experience life fully. I am sorry.
UNDERSTANDING TRAUMA
Traumatised people have difficulty experiencing joy and pleasure, and it doesn't matter how big or small the traumatic event was—it is what we are left with that matters.
What protects us from becoming traumatised is the presence of someone safe who is there for us at the time of the event or shortly after. When that doesn't happen, therapy is the next best thing.
HOW WE WORK TOGETHER
When we talk about what happened, or is happening to you, I become that safe person as your therapist. Trauma is stored in the body, and when we talk, your body feels everything you have been through.
Using EMDR (trauma-focused bodywork), conscious breathwork, art, and many other tools in my toolkit, we help your body feel 'it all' until the end, so the fear and pain can leave your body - and thus your mind - for good.
You Are Not Alone
Trauma is extremely common. You are not alone, and you don't have to live with trauma forever.
