Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or simply know that something needs to shift in your life, therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many women come to therapy to process difficult emotions, navigate life transitions, heal from past experiences, or simply to understand themselves better. If you're curious about therapy, that curiosity itself is often a sign that it's worth exploring.

  • What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and I'll explain how I work. There's no pressure to dive into anything difficult right away, we'll move at your pace. This initial meeting is also an opportunity for you to see if we feel like a good fit.

  • Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us a chance to connect briefly, discuss what you're looking for, and answer any initial questions you might have before committing to a full session.

  • Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes. Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for most concerns. Many clients appreciate the convenience and comfort of being in their own space. What matters most is having a private, quiet environment where you feel safe to speak openly.

About Therapy Sessions

  • How long will I need therapy?

The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients come for short-term support (a few weeks to a few months), while others benefit from longer-term therapy (several months to a year or more). The duration depends on your goals and needs. We will regularly assess your progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure we're moving toward the best outcome for you.

  • Do I need to prepare anything before my session?

Not really. Just come as you are. For online sessions, make sure you're in a private, quiet space where you won't be interrupted. For Rebirthing Breathwork sessions, wear comfortable clothing and avoid eating a heavy meal beforehand. Otherwise, there's no preparation needed, your presence is enough.

  • What kind of therapy do you practice?

I've trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities because I believe in seeing each person as a whole; mind, body, and spirit. As a transpersonal psychotherapist and counsellor, I integrate various approaches to support your unique healing journey.

Apart from transpersonal psychotherapy my training includes Rebirthing Breathwork, EMDR (trauma-focused therapy), Energy Therapy, Systemic and Family Constellations, and Voice Dialogue, among others. Throughout our work together, I draw from these modalities intuitively and intentionally, depending on what you need in each moment.

  • What if I don't know what to talk about in a session?

That's completely normal and happens more often than you might think. We can explore what's coming up for you in the moment, reflect on your week, or I can gently guide the conversation with questions. Sometimes not knowing what to say is itself worth exploring. You don't need to have everything figured out or organized before you arrive.

  • Can I bring my partner or family member to a session?

While my primary focus is on individual therapy for women, there may be times when it's helpful to include a partner or family member in a session. We can discuss this on a case-by-case basis depending on your therapeutic goals.

  • How does online therapy work?

I use a secure platform called Zoom to meet with clients for online therapy. Each week, you'll receive an appointment reminder with a link to join your scheduled session. There's no need to download additional apps or software. Zoom works easily on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. What matters most is that you have a quiet, private space where you can speak freely and feel safe.

  • How often should I come in?

    Psychotherapy and Counselling
The most common frequency is once a week. This is the standard in therapy. It gives you time to process things between sessions while keeping the momentum going. Most people start here, especially in the beginning.

If you're dealing with high distress (such as a crisis, recent trauma, or intense anxiety/depression), you might benefit from EMDR intensives or sessions twice a week for a period of time before transitioning to weekly sessions.

Some people eventually move to fortnightly or monthly check-ins, or come as needed after addressing the main concerns that brought them to therapy.

  • How often should I come in?

    Rebirthing Breathwork Sessions
There is no standard frequency for Therapeutic Breathwork sessions. Ideally, you want to breathe regularly to maintain momentum, though everyone processes at a different pace between sessions. After your first Rebirthing Breathwork session, I'll ask what feels right for you regarding the timing of your next session. I trust your body's wisdom. Many clients choose to come weekly, some fortnightly, and others monthly. Occasionally, clients travel to London for an intensive breathwork experience - one session a day for several days. There is no wrong way, only your way.

EMDR Therapy

  • What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a specialised form of trauma therapy that helps your brain process and heal from difficult experiences. During an EMDR session, I'll guide you to recall a traumatic memory or distressing experience whilst using bilateral stimulation - typically eye movements (following my hand or a light), tapping, or sounds that alternate between left and right. This bilateral stimulation helps your brain reprocess the memory in a way that reduces its emotional charge and allows healing to occur. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn't require you to talk in detail about the traumatic event. Your brain does the healing work naturally whilst the bilateral stimulation helps facilitate the process. Many clients find that memories that once felt overwhelming become less distressing and lose their grip on their present life.

EMDR Intensives

  • What is an EMDR intensive?

An EMDR intensive is a focused, condensed format of trauma therapy where we work together for extended periods over a shorter timeframe. Instead of weekly 50-minute sessions spread over months, intensives allow for deeper, more concentrated healing work. Sessions typically last several hours and occur over consecutive days or a single extended day.

  • Who are EMDR intensives for?

EMDR intensives are ideal for people who want to address specific traumatic experiences or emotional blocks more quickly and deeply than traditional weekly therapy allows. They're particularly helpful if you're dealing with a specific trauma, phobias, anxiety, or PTSD symptoms, and you're ready for focused healing work. Intensives can also be beneficial if you have limited time availability or travel from a distance.

  • How long is an EMDR intensive session?

EMDR intensive sessions typically range from 3 to 6 hours, depending on your needs and what we determine together. Some clients choose a single-day intensive, while others prefer multiple consecutive days. We'll discuss what format would work best for you during our consultation.

  • Can EMDR intensives be done online?

Yes, EMDR intensives can be conducted online with the same effectiveness as in-person sessions. You'll need a private, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed, a reliable internet connection, and ideally a larger screen (computer or tablet rather than phone) for optimal bilateral stimulation.
